As the amount of renewable electricity capacity increases exponentially, it is expected that needs for energy storage will also expand to compensate for the intermittency, uncertainty, and location dependency that are characteristic of renewable energy. Renewable Energy

Wind power and solar power, reliant on the weather and season, are to some extent unpredictable. Wind power generators can generate electricity only when there is wind, while solar power can do so only when the sun is up. Energy storage system can fill the electricity generation gap caused by the intermittency and uncertainty of renewables and save energy to avoid possible wind and solar energy curtailment.

Isolated Islands and Micro-grids

There are many islands in the world that are not suitable for large-scale power plants and therefore short of electricity sufficient for comfortable daily living; there are also remote areas where transmission lines are not properly installed. These places are fitting for renewables and distributed generation integrated with energy storage system. Energy storage system can save extra energy when renewable energy or distributed generation is in operation, and output electricity when needed. In the case of solar power, it would be saving electricity during daytime and output during nighttime.
